Have you ever wanted to write out your thoughts in a more creative way? Do you find it hard to stay focused on the future, or are you looking for a way to get in touch with your past?
These decks are designed to help you focus on the past, present, and future in your life. We've created three card decks with 150 (50 per deck) open ended phrases that help you reflect on the past, notice your present and dream about the future.
These cards can be used in a number of ways:
-As a journal prompt
-For goal setting and planning
By using this deck in combination with reflective questioning and mindfulness practices, you will be able to understand the contribution that your past, present and future thoughts make to your overall identity.
Discuss or reflect on your perspectives or beliefs concerning each point of time, and learn about yourself on a deeper level to make identity corrections which will ultimately help enhance your self awareness and life.
HOW IT WORKS:
Group Play - Method 1
Shuffle each of the card decks separately. Within your group, allow each participant to randomly take one card from each deck (past, present and future). Take time (we suggest 2 minutes) to allow all players to think of personal answers to their 3 cards.
Past - I taught.. myself to love being alone.
Present - I rarely… take time for myself.
Future - I will feel… so much better once I learn how to stop caring about what others think of me.
The answers don’t have to relate or even make sense to others in the group - only you. The main objective is to think of the first thing that comes to mind.
Once everyone has their answers, allow each person to share with the group. Start with everyone’s past answers, then present and future. After a person shares, allow the group to ask deeper who, what, when, where, why and how questions to get a better understanding of the persons answer.
For example, if your answer was:
Present - I tend to… stay in toxic relationships.
The group can ask:
Why do you think this is so?
What was the longest relationship you’ve been in?
Do you think this stems from a fear of yours?
The goal is to get to get a deeper understanding of the answer to see what might rise to the surface.
Single Play - Method 1
When you are alone, shuffle and then randomly take one card from each deck (past, present and future).
Start with the past and take time (we suggest 5 minutes) to think of personal answers to the 3 cards one at a time.
Past - I gave... a lot of myself to others.
Present - I spend... most of my time doing work.
Future - I anticipate... planning my summer vacation.
The main objective is to think of the first thing that comes to mind.
Ask yourself deeper who, what, when, where, why and how questions to get a better understanding of your answers.
If your answer was,
Future - I will finish... getting my degree.
Why are you determined to do this?
How will you feel once you receive it?
When should you start this (if you haven’t already)?
The goal is to get to get a deeper understanding of your answers to see what might rise to the surface.
